Languedoc
The Languedoc is the oldest wine growing region in France. It was the ancient Greeks who first imported vines, and the climate and geology of the area are perfectly suited to the cultivation of grapes and the production of wine. It is therefore somewhat surprising to learn that this is also one of the most dynamic wine growing regions in the world.
After 150 years of producing high volumes of rough table wine, the last two decades have seen a revolution in winemaking in the region with the focus now being very much on quality. The market is fluid - each year sees the arrival of a new batch of young winemakers who are keen to experiment and to invest in producing high quality wines, keen to challenge the existing hierarchy.
