Dutruch Moulis en Medoc Cru Bourgeois Superieur
How should Dutruch Grand Poujeaux be served ?
We regularly note the beneficial effect of airing the young vintages. Opening the wine or, better still, decanting it opens the wine up, allowing it to show its complexity and personality. Airing the wine gives young wines the development which mature wines have had the time to acquire in bottle.
The time allowed for airing depends on the age and also the quality of the vintage...and the palate of the taster.
As a rule of thumb, we suggest what is always good for the wine: for a wine of less than 7 years we recommend airing of 2-3 hours before serving.
At what age should our wines be drunk ?
Generally, drinking after between4 and 9 years is never an error.
The high quality of our terroir nonetheless guarantees good lasting qualities in our wines, up to 10 or 15 years, or even more in exceptional vintages. It is a matter of personal preference whether to open a bottle or wait: the range of taste experiences in an aged wine (gentle aromas, subtle, complex notes of autumnal woodland, plum, leather, etc) is different from the range shown by a young wine (fresh fruit, oak, powerful bouquet, powerful tannins).
It is up to everyone to know his or her own taste and taste in accordance with that.
What food should be eaten with our wines ?
Naturally, good red meats such as those grilled over vine cuttings.
But we have noticed that our wines go well with a wide range of dishes, even spicy or exotic ones, even slightly sweet. Audacity is allowed! The only items which should be avoided are grapefruits, artichokes, endives and melons.
We suggest that you think of the balance of the elements proposed. The power of a young wine will stand up to the power of a spicy food. The subtlety of an old wine will match the most unexpected dishes: it can, for example, be served with fish, even smoked fish.
