Chateau Carles Fronsac
History
Chateau de Carles is a fortified Chateau built in the 15th and 16th centuries. Built on one of the 3 hills in Fronsac it was the one chosen by the future Charlemagne who built a fort on it during his conquest of Aquitane. Montaigne and La Boetie used to meet at the Chateau and, in the 18th century the property belonged to the beautiful Marquise de Boufflers, a celebrated wit and friend of Voltaire and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. In 1993 Constance and Stephane Droulers bought the Chateau which has 20 hectares on vineyards on clay/limestone slopes. Jean Luc Thunevin is their consultant winemaker who produces sophisticated wines from their hand picked grapes.
Winemaking
This wine is aged in barrels for 12 months prior to bottling. The result is a rich, yet balanced wine with soft fine tannins and an elegant, fine finish.
